Aunt Sadie's: The Cure for the Common Cabin Fever
February 26, 2014
We’re convinced. More this year than any other, we’re convinced.
Winter can make a person miserable.
Aunt Sadie’s is fortunate enough to be nestled in the hills of a small Vermont hamlet. But it is Northern Vermont, and we’ve seen temperatures fall far below zero, we’ve seen a couple feet of snow...and this all in the past month or so. But it’s Winter, with a capital ‘W’. We’ve heard people say Winter around here isn’t a season, but an occupation. We totally agree.
Everywhere around the country we’re hearing about the harshest side effects of winter: snow, sleet, rain, freezing rain, -30°F to -50°F temperatures, more snow, more freezing rain...everyone will agree that it’s tiring.
Our hearts go out to those who aren’t used to this crazy winter weather, or worse, those not ready for it. Below the Mason-Dixon line Winter’s really taken a toll.
Winter is literally hitting our country below the Belt.
But all over the country, winter has an impact.
You can workout, you can take supplements, you can do everything possible to keep your chin up during the Snowpocalypse...but some people will succumb to cabin fever, to one degree or another, no matter what they do.
Everyone knows what cabin fever is. It’s what happens to a person who stays cooped up for long periods of time in the Winter. Jack Torrance from The Shining had it. And seriously, no one wants a winter like that one, though we’re sure some people reading this can relate to that awful winter at the Overlook right about now.
First, we want to make sure you understand the following statement has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration...but we’re sure Aunt Sadie’s Candles can help get rid of cabin fever.
It’s easy: we’re going to take you on a small journey.
Imagine, in your mind...a length of fence running along an open field, the breeze blowing along a couple swallowtail butterflies over lilac blossoms, the crunch of a dirt road underneath your feet. Our Lilac candle can bring you here, and so many other places.
Next, we’ve got a Daffodil candle that offers a hint of spring in each candle, bringing to mind an orchestra of those trumpet-like blossoms, yellows and oranges and whites alike. On our journey you’re thankful you can set a vase of daffodils in your window now, that finally you can open a window after this horrendous winter.
Our Grass candle fast-forwards the season for you, bringing you right into the summertime tradition of mowing lawns. Breathe deep, as this is the height of the season, baseball on the radio on the front porch, an iced tea close at hand.
Our Tomato candle will give you an instant urge to dig your hands into the dirt and work the earth. What better feeling is there than that of creating life, bringing forth nutrition and sustenance from a seed, some water, and some sun? Especially in the dregs of winter. Pause here on our journey and breathe deeply, as Tomato is one of our signature candles: we challenge you to find a candle that smells exactly like a tomato vine.
And new this year, our Dirt candle will immediately brighten your day, no matter how overcast it is where you are. One whiff of this scent, and you’ll see why we’re in the candle business: our Dirt candle can make a person understand what it’s like to finally reap that which you sow. THIS is the scent of hard work; THIS is the scent of happiness. Our Dirt candle is something you can’t miss out on.
Thank you for coming along on our journey; we all know scent is the sense that can trigger memory like no other. If you’re feeling a little blue, we’ve got a candle for you. A Lilac candle to lift your spirits, a Dirt candle to ground you (see what we did there?), and a Tomato candle to help you remember what it’s like to enjoy your garden.
If that doesn’t sound like a cure to the common cabin fever, we don’t know what does!
