Welcome to our New Website and Blog!
September 30, 2012
Woohoo! In case you can't tell, we're bursting with excitement as we post our first blog entry on Aunt Sadie's newly redesigned website. Our prevoius site was a tad bit clunky and had lost the customer friendliness we desired for it when we designed it ions ago. One of the visions in relocating Aunt Sadie's to Vermont in 2011 was realigning with one our original business values, being able to meet and exceed customer expectations. We realized we were coming up short when we listened to customer's frustrated (and painful) feedback with online ordering. Early this year, the State of Vermont Small Business Development Office awarded us a grant to redesign our website. After the longest 9 months in history, here we are, welcome to our new site. We love being Vermont-based and are grateful to the State of Vermont for recognizing the value of both small businesses and e-commerce.
The first thing you'll notice on this new site is we've added music (with the option to turn it off). Co-owner Brian Schnetzer (Sadie's grandson) fondly remembers her humming "Somewhere My Love" often. And this rendition by the Lawrence Welk Orchestra would have pleased her immensely. We hope you enjoy listening to it and think of Aunt Sadie as you do.
Also new is the blog feature. For us it's kind of like a front porch... a place where we can share news and insights about Aunt Sadie's with you, our friends. And they'll be contests and guest entries and who knows, maybe we'll even post dog and staff photos.
You'll notice that our candle collections (the category headings you see on the left sidebar) have changed and we've added two collections: "Greetings from..." and "Personalized". Our "Greetings from..." collection is inspired by vintage travel postcards from the 1930s-1950s and it's been a favorite with our wholesale cusotmers for years. Now we're able to offer them to retail customers as well and to celebrate we're offering 15% off any "Greetings from..." candle for the month of October. Just select the candles you'd like from that collection and enter the word "Greetings" when you process your order through your Shopping Bag to receive the discount.
And we introduce you to our Personalized candle collection for online shoppers. Last year, we began offering wholesale customers the opportunity to personalize a collection of label templates for their stores. We designed labels with generic backgrounds, designated an area for text, and our wholesale cusotmers personalized that text to say what they wanted. For instance, our Lake Candle background has a calm panoramic lake photo that could be just about anywhere in the United States. The template of the Lake Candle has a square box with the word "LAKE" in it. Our Personalized candle option allows our wholesale customers (via our in-house design department) to add the name of any lake in their town, city or region. It's been hugely popular. Now we're offering that same opportunity to online shoopers. Just click on the Peraonlized candle category, select the label background you want to use and enter up to 15 letters in the "Personalized Message" box. Easy as that. The cost is a bit higher for these candles because each label involves additional design work, but just think of the possibilities: personalized Christmas candles for family and friends; a personalized birthday candle as a gift; a personalized vacation candle when you go to your lake, etc. And best of all, personalized candles won't slow down the delivery of your shipment and you only have to buy one.
Things are more exciting than ever at Aunt Sadie's and we'll keep you posted on more website features and new candles via this blog. We hope you enjoy the new website, please feel free to share your feedback with us. But mostly, thanks for visting with us today, after all, you are the heart of Aunt Sadie's.
